Member Newsletter – April 2021

Thank you to everyone that filled out the survey! We received quite a few responses, which is very helpful. The majority of our membership is ready to get back to playing, so we are trying to accommodate that.

The Roy Scott Big Band has already had two successful indoor rehearsals in Quincy with fully vaccinated members only. The only exception has been for those members who are able to remain masked the entire time. A Zoom link has been available for those who are not able to attend in person. Video from the first rehearsal showed that they sound great! You would never know that these players hadn’t rehearsed together in a year. Thanks to Steve Blumberg for getting us in touch with the hall in Quincy. Thank you also to Tom Lucci for coordinating with all the players, to Matt Leftin for facilitating the Zoom sessions for the rehearsals and to Steve Bell for his conducting talents.

The concert band is going to be more of a challenge to get back together. We are actively looking for locations, most likely outdoors, in the Sharon area where we can rehearse. If anyone knows of anything, even if it’s just someone’s parking lot, please let us know.

Please know that any rehearsals we hold are not mandatory. Most members want to us to come back together, so we are working to provide that opportunity, but a rehearsal should in no way be viewed as an obligation. If you filled out the survey and have decided that you are not comfortable returning yet, you will not lose your place in the organization.

Our next board meeting will be on Monday, May 10th at 7:00 pm via Zoom. As always, members are welcome to attend.

Thanks!

    Hello!
This is Ashley Servideo and I play clarinet in the concert band. My mother lives in Mansfield and she has a very big backyard that is accommodating to being able to practice, which she also sprays for bugs and has adequate lighting (bc she has an outdoor ring for horses) we also have bathroom in the barn for anyone who would need restrooms during practice. I would like to suggest we have our concert band practice there and she is open for it. As far as parking we could figure that out and we would all just have to be patient bc we would be packed in since it is a long driveway. But should be doable!!! Address is 456 Fruit St Mansfield Ma.
Hoping we can get back to practicing somewhere local since the my work s hey doesn’t permit me to get to Quincy in time. Thank you!! Hope to hear back soon! Phone is 508-212-8989 text is best!!

    1. Hi Ashley – this is Art LaMan and I just noticed your comment today.

If you haven’t already, can you send a note to the personnel folks please?
