Hi Everyone!
Here’s the latest news for this month.
- Norwood Concert July 18th for the Sharon Concert Band
-
- Our only SCB summer concert is this Sunday, July 18th in Norwood at 6:00 PM.
- I’ll send out a separate email with details and a set list.
- Alan Shipiro
-
- As many of you may have already heard, one of our founding members, Alan Shipiro, passed away in June.
- Alan was a talented musician and friend to many members of the group.
- The following is a link to his obituary: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/bostonglobe/name/alan-shapiro-obituary?pid=199085115
- We would like to pay tribute to Alan this coming season. If anyone has any memories they’d like to share, please forward them to any of the board members.
- Roy Scott Big Band Concerts
-
- The RSBB has already performed several well received concerts this summer. They have a full lineup of summer concerts this year. Thanks to Matt Leftin for his work in setting up these concerts.
- They’ll be performing tonight at the Endicott Estate in Dedham. Check out our website for their remaining schedule.
- New Website!
-
- After much hard work, our new website is live! Thank you to Glenn McGibbon and Art Leman for all of the work on the new site and to Michael Getz for his help with some behind the scenes transfer issues.
- Both sharonbands.org and sharon-bands.org work currently to bring up the new site.
- The sharon-bands.org site will eventually be phased out in the coming weeks.

-
- Co-Presidents: Angela Woodward and Kathy Brink

- Thank you to Charlie Piper for his years of service as co-president and for helping us to navigate the group through covid. He will continue to serve on the board for the 2021/2022 season.
- Thank you to Tom Lucci for continuing as treasurer. Tom does a lot of work for the group that goes unseen and we appreciate all he does for us.
- Current Board Members: Angela Woodward, Kathy Brink, Charlie Piper, Al True, Derek Day, Tom Lucci, George Mellman, Matt Leftin, Bev Reilly and Amy Paul.
- Fall Plans
-
- We will be back in the Sharon Middle School this fall! A big thank you to George Mellman for working with the Sharon school system to make this happen.
- Our first rehearsal of 2021/2022 season will be Thursday, September 2nd at the Sharon Middle School. This will likely be an extended SCB only rehearsal where we’ll rehearse and have some social time. More details to come in next month’s newsletter.
- For those new to the group, our normal SCB rehearsals are on Thursday evenings, starting promptly at 7:15 and ending around 8:45. The RSBB then rehearses after SCB. The first rehearsal for SCB will likely extend beyond our normal 8:45 stop time.
- We will hopefully spend the first couple of SCB rehearsals preparing for a concert at the Ames Free Library in Easton in September. They’ll be more details on this next month. The Ames Free Library houses our library of music upstairs in the tower of the library at no cost to us. In return, we try to provide a free yearly concert for them behind the library in the beautiful Queset Garden, weather permitting. It’s a lovely place to play and we’ve had some great performances there over the years.
- We are tentatively looking at putting on a fall concert that’s shorter in length than normal.
- We’ve also had inquiries about doing Christmas concerts for local churches as we’ve done in recent years for a scaled down group.
- We would also like to spend some time this fall getting started on some of the more difficult pieces that will be included in our Hindsight concert in March so we have ample time to prepare.
- These are all tentative plans and are subject to change. We’ll keep everyone updated.
- Next Board Meeting
-
- Our next board meeting will be Monday, August 9th at 7:00 PM via Zoom.
- As always, members are welcome to attended. Please respond to this email if you’d like the link to the meeting.
